My First Open Source Contribution
I’ve been putting off contributing to open source for ages. Always felt like I didn’t know enough, wasn’t ready, or needed to learn more first. Sound familiar?
Well, I finally pulled the trigger and made my first contribution to first-contributions — the official GitHub tutorial repository that helps beginners make their first PR.
The truth is, it was easier than I thought. The repository is literally designed for this. The barrier to entry is intentionally low, and that’s the point.
Why first-contributions? It felt like the right place to start. It’s where thousands of developers have made their first open source commit, and now I’m one of them.
This won’t be my last contribution. If you’ve been on the fence about contributing to open source — just do it. Pick a beginner-friendly repo, find a small fix or improvement, and go for it.
Your first PR doesn’t have to be groundbreaking. It just has to be yours. 🚀
